Tyers Gate (formerly Tyers Gateway) is named after the Tyers family, a well-established family of wool staplers and fellmongers living in Bermondsey Street. Jonathan Tyers, born in 1702, was the man behind the success of Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens in Kennington, which became the go-to place for entertainment.
