My photo ‘Al’s Cafe’, taken in Bermondsey Street, has won the South of the River photo competition run by the National Portrait Gallery.

This photograph stood out for its directness, free from filters and distracting image editing effects, and makes a strong statement on a person’s connection with place.

Also a really nice colour and compositional balance.
